METAMORPHOSEN Transformations for piano
A musical-literary evening with the pianist Natalia Nikolaeva. In the hall. Contribution: 15 €.
“My mind drives me to speak of bodies transformed into new shapes.” With these words, Ovid begins his Metamorphoses
– written in exile, far from Rome, far from everything he knew. He knew that those who cannot transform themselves will not survive.
This evening follows Ovid’s conviction. Music transforms – through hands, through centuries, through continents. Bach becomes piano sound.
Schubert’s song is made to glow by Liszt’s hands. A Hungarian folk song expands into a rhapsody. A Mendelssohn theme passes through seventeen forms and returns changed.
Spanish rhythms travel across the Atlantic, become Caribbean embers – and finally land where transformation is not a metaphor, but geology: on an island that has risen from the fire of the sea.
Lanzarote is no coincidence as the last word of this evening. The Cantos Canarios by Teobaldo Power – music that comes from this earth, from this air, from this light – are not an arrival in the usual sense. They are a homecoming. After all the fire. After all change.
In the program: works by Bach, Silvestrov, Mendelssohn, Schubert/Liszt, Liszt, Moszkowski, Lecuona, de Falla and Power
