Las excavaciones comenzaron despu\u00e9s de que unos fragmentos de cer\u00e1mica y restos de numerosas conchas indicaran que all\u00ed debi\u00f3 de haber habido asentamientos. En la actualidad, los historiadores est\u00e1n convencidos de que esta isla situada frente a Fuerteventura fue, hace 2000 a\u00f1os, un laboratorio dedicado a la laboriosa obtenci\u00f3n de p\u00farpura para el Imperio romano. Aqu\u00ed se procesaban miles de caracoles para obtener tan solo un gramo de colorante.   <\/p>\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Resulta sorprendente que el rojo utilizado para te\u00f1ir est\u00e9 tan vinculado a este lugar.
