The book:
\nWho were our fathers? Where are we at home? Where is our home?
\nAlbrecht von Wernow grew up with his parents telling him that he was
\nnot at home in the small town in West Germany to which his parents fled after
\nthe Second World War. His home was his father’s manor
\neast of the Oder. The search for a sense of his, his son’s, home
\nturns into a search for the life of his parents, his father.
\nLandowner, soldier, participant in the war, Knight’s Cross bearer, who was his father?
\nAnd was he a Nazi? And if he was not a Nazi, was he involved in the atrocities committed by the
\nWehrmacht?
\nAlbrecht von Wernow researches his father’s life and writes down what he has found
\n. His account describes the last veils that remain over his father’s
\nlife during the war. At the same time, the novel paints an
\nempathetic picture of the happiness and suffering of the war participants and refugees
\nand of the barriers that stood in the way of taking up a bourgeois life after
\nthe end of the war. <\/p>\n
